Fashion in Seattle – Escada vs. Gucci

March 2, 2009

escada Gucci  for Escada –   Located directly across from louis vuitton Washington sees the opening of it’s first Gucci retail store, 1 of 16 within the US.   Retail specialists believe Gucci will be more succesful than Escada, primarily due to the cultish obsession buyers have with their handbags.   Accesories decadent with Gucci print costing hundreds of dollars vs. thousands of dollars womens outfit (Escada), tend to be more aggreable with the Pacific Northwest shopping demographic (makes sense to me).   Interestingly enough, Gucci had been considering opening shop East of Seattle, in Bellevue where Neiman Marcus will be opening.  However Bellevue Nordstroms’ in-store mini Gucci-eria kept Gucci Retail west of 520.  How’s that for proof that fashion is budding in Seattle?  Or, is it just lack luster designer driven appeal where 150K earners buy fashion for their logos and status – and the 20k earners…like you and me 🙂

Everyone’s Talking :: Robert Geller

February 17, 2009

GQ, Vogue and yes, even Daniel Dy, are all talking, raving and mentioning the name Robert Geller!!   I read some very interesting views and critiques of his clothing…most of which summarized his work as being extraordinary & beautiful.

However, even these editorial praises included such comments like the ones posted below – some of which seem contradictory to the beautiful comments, yet i am content to see them as opinions & constructive criticism

“The designer clearly has a thing for Tsarist militaris”    |   “He insisted that the stripes …were inspired by gypsies, but they also reminded one of prison uniforms.”  |  “accusations of Nazism”  |  “Geller offered up a vision that could have been extracted from a dark Transylvanian romance”

hehe – now for the selections – which i enjoyed

Geller was just recently awarded the GQ Mens Wear Prize, bringing unprecedented attention to his talent & designs.
